Selection and Training

Recruitment of the right people is essential to West Valley Security. After all they are the face and reputation of our company and are responsible for delivering our commitment to you.

The majority of our Mobile Security officers are ex forces, police officers or officers from other security companies. Their employment history for their previous 10 years is checked, verified and a Criminal Registration Bureau (CRB) check is undertaken. We also ensure that they are licensed with the Security Industry Authority (SIA)

If the applicant meets all the above criteria, they then go through our selection process and if successful join on a three month probationary period.

All our staff, irrespective of their background, undergo an intensive, 4 week basic training course which includes:

• Area Knowledge/Familiarisation
• Driving Skills
• Map Reading
• Alarms
• Incident Handling
• Radio Communications
• PACE (Police And Criminal Evidence act 1984)
• Report Writing
• Health and Safety
• Customer Communications and Service

During this period of training and assessment they are also graded on their appearance, dress, timekeeping and overall attitude.

Following the initial four weeks of training they undergo two days of tests and if successful become fully operational whilst being assessed for the following two months on duty.

Ongoing Training

We appreciate that for many this is far and above what would normally undertaken for new Security Officers. At West Valley we believe it is just the start. West Valley is part of the UK Government’s Train to Gain programme and all our officers are required to work towards the NVQ – Security Level 1 as a minimum and are encouraged to move on to the next level.

Additionally, all our management team regularly attend courses in Management and Supervisory Skills.
